There’s a severe WEATHER WARNING for Adelaide today

2 min read

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds heading for Adelaide and parts of SA.

The warning covers Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East and parts of the West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Mid North, Murraylands and Upper South East districts.

“A deep low pressure system south of the Bight will move slowly east to be near Tasmania on Tuesday,” the BOM reported on Monday. “A vigorous northwest to westerly air stream wrapping around the north of the low with a series of fronts and gusty showers and thunderstorms will impact southern parts of the State during this time.”

“Strong to damaging northwest to westerly winds around 50-65 km/h with peak gusts around 90 km/h are forecast to develop over parts of the warning area this morning, most likely with squally showers and thunderstorms.

“Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier, Maitland, Murray Bridge and Kingscote.”

By Monday morning Neptune Island had already recorded a gust of 106km/h.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
