The Bureau of Meteorology has upgraded its earlier severe weather warning to now include possible destructive wind gusts for parts of the state.
According to the BOM:
The Severe Weather Warning for South Australia has been updated to include the possibility of Destructive Wind Gusts in excess of 125 km/h over Kangaroo Island and parts of the South East districts.
“Weather Situation: A vigorous cold front with damaging winds and squally showers near Kangaroo Island, will move across southern SA reaching Adelaide in the early afternoon and the Victorian border late afternoons.
“Strong to damaging west to northwesterly winds averaging 50-70 km/h, with gusts of 90-110 km/h, ahead of a cold front moving over the warning area today.
“Winds turning west to southwesterly around 50-70 km/h, with gusts in excess of 90 km/h, behind the cold front before gradually easing overnight.
“For the Adelaide area the strongest winds are likely from around midday until early evening. Localised heavy falls are also possible about the Mount Lofty Ranges.
“Localised DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS in excess of 125 km/h are possible about Kangaroo Island, the Lower South East and coastal parts of the Upper South East, with and following the cold front.
“Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Renmark, Mount Gambier and Naracoorte.
“Wind gusts of 91 km/h have been observed at Cape Borda and a gust of 82 km/h has been observed at Stenhouse Bay.
“The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.”
