Australians are being urged to cut back on their consumption of soft drinks to help avoid obesity and cancer.
According to new research, there is a direct link between obesity and thirteen different types of cancer, including breast and stomach cancer.
The Cancer Council says only 40 per cent of Australians know that a bad diet can lead to cancer.
“[Obesity]’s far too big a problem to just be focusing on treatment… it’s potentially avoidable,” said Dr Ahmad Aly.
“Our first step is looking at added sugar in processed foods, particularly sugary drinks adds unnecessary calories to our diet, which leads to excess weight.”
