Expert warns a government plan to create a facial recognition database raises the risk of identity theft.

“There is not one centralised database that is not prone to be hacked,” Dr John Bruni told FIVEaa on Thursday.

“If you start collecting people’s biometric signatures and then there is a hack, your biometrics markers will then go off to organised criminal groups who are very deft at technology.

“Once they’ve taken your facial identity that’s it, you’re marked for life -- you’ll never be able to reclaim that identity.”
