Severe Weather WARNING Issued For Adelaide

2 min read

A severe weather warning for damaging winds is current for southern parts of SA, including Adelaide.

The BOM issued a warning on Friday afternoon for people in Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of West Coast and Flinders districts.

“Strong front with squally showers and thunderstorms to sweep across the south today. More severe winds on Saturday.

“A strong cold front, moving through Adelaide at 2:45 pm, will move rapidly east, reaching the eastern border areas by early evening. Damaging winds, squally showers and thunderstorms accompany this front. A follow up frontal system will generate very windy conditions on Saturday.

“Northwest to westerly winds increasing to 50-65 km/h with gusts around 90 km/h for a period ahead of the front, persisting for a few hours. These winds are generating dust across Eyre Peninsula and dust is likely to spread further east with the front.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
