Gender info will be removed from drivers licenses in Queensland following complaints about possible discrimination, according to a report.

The Courier Mail says it has obtained a leaked document that proves the local Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is making the move following complaints from the LGBTI community.

According to the paper, the document said:

“TMR has received complaints and suggestions from members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community about displaying gender/sex (M or F) on TMR cards,”

“TMR has received feedback that the collection of personal information (eye and hair colour, complexion, height) may be perceived as discriminatory by some members of the community,” the document said.

The department denies complaints prompted the move, and says instead the main reasons behind the move were federal sex discrimination laws and technological advancements around facial recognition.
