The owner of MP3 Café on Jetty Rd in Brighton has been slugged almost $9,000 for a cockroach infestation.
According to the Messenger, owner Bing Liang was fined $4800 for his offences and also ordered to pay $3300 for Holdfast Bay Council’s costs together with $640 for the Victims of Crime Levy, to a total of $8740.
“(There was) a longstanding infestation of cockroaches observed by (the) council’s environmental health officers … prompted by complaints of cockroaches by customers,” a council spokesman told the paper.
According to a council report, which says the café is now pest-free and well maintained:
“The September complaint prompted a series of inspections in which was confirmed there was a systemic failure to prevent and control an infestation of cockroaches.”
