Poll Finds Most Aussies Don’t Care When Australia Day Is Held

1 min read

A new survey says almost all Australians think a national day of celebration is important, but most don’t mind what date it is held on.

According to an Australia Institute survey:

– 84 per cent think it is important the country has a national day of celebration.

– 56 per cent say they don’t mind when the day occurs

– 77 per cent of people incorrectly believe Australia Day has always occurred on January 26 (the date was adopted by all states in 1935, and has only been celebrated in its current form since 1994, according to smh.com.au).
