Lonely Planet has released its annual list of the best cities in the world to visit, and Canberra is the only Australian entry.
Australia’s capital ranks third, according to LP, behind Seville, Spain (#1) and Detroit, USA (#2).
The travel guide company described Canberra as “criminally overlooked”:
“National treasures are found round almost every corner and exciting new boutique precincts have emerged, bulging with gastronomic highlights and cultural must-dos.”
But not everyone appears to agree:
Canberra named 3rd best travel city by @lonelyplanet. Nothing against Canberra but seriously?! New York, London, Paris… No? #confused pic.twitter.com/Wqwui3Rncq

Just strange – Hamburg I get. Vibrant, diverse, river-sea, history.. I enjoy going to Canberra for a few days and then leaving to come home
