Nick Xenophon is on track to win the state seat of Hartley, according to a new opinion poll published by The Advertiser.
Last week Xenophon announced he would leave the Senate to contest the 2018 election.
Now according to The Advertiser, he is set to beat the Liberal member Vincent Tarzia who currently holds Hartley.
“Mr Tarzia leads on primary votes, with 38 per cent support,” the paper reports.
“However, Senator Xenophon is nipping at his heels on 35 per cent and would comfortably take the seat on preferences.
“Labor, which held the seat until 2014, is a distant third on 17 per cent of the primaries.”
