Businessman Dick Smith says the country’s predicted population explosion is a disaster for the Australian way of life.
Australia’s population is predicted to hit 40 million by the middle of the century.
Smith spoke to Four Corners as part of its ‘Big Australia’ story, saying:
“Just near here, I used to go through here as a young boy, and there were lots of houses.
“They are just around the corner there, they are gradually being knocked down.
“But that’s where an Aussie family could live the Aussie dream, they could buy a house.
“You can’t do that anymore. You’re jammed like a termite in a high rise, or I say battery chooks.”
"You can't (buy a house) anymore … You're jammed like a termite in a high rise."
