A new heavily armed SAPOL unit will soon be visible at major SA events to respond instantly to terror attacks.
According to The Advertiser:
Heavily armed police will now stand guard outside major South Australian public events after a multimillion-dollar State Government cash injection.
Up to 48 officers will join the crack new ‘Security Response’ section, which will target at risk events and respond to terror attacks.
The $9 million unit, comprising a range of differently ranked officers, will provide “enhanced” responses including arming them with semi-automatic rifles.
The section will also have bomb squad members who will sweep for IED explosives.
No law changes are needed and the “rapid response” officers will have the same legal protections if they kill a suspect.
A heavily armed new police squad will soon stand on guard at all major SA events, to respond immediately to terror attacks or other risks. https://t.co/BoASxIeeRL #saparli
