EARLIER…
A prosecutor says one of the boys behind an alleged school massacre plot in the Riverland is “extremely likely” to carry out an attack if he is released on bail.
Advertiser chief court reporter Sean Fewster says prosecutor Amy Winra has outlined the case against a 16-year-old boy and his 18-year-old co-accused in her opposition to a bail application for the 16 year old on Tuesday.
She said:
– The boys had determined to “kill as many people as possible”
– Took steps to obtain guns and make other weapons
– Tested some of their creations in an area near the targeted school on Halloween night this year
– Those items included a homemade Molotov cocktail and “poor man’s napalm”.
– They built their own body-armour, including chest plates
– And had armed themselves with “machetes, knives, and bear claws”
Ms Winra said it was “extremely likely” the 16 year old would carry out an attack if he was released on bail.
A decision was expected on Tuesday at 2pm.
