Blind People In Adelaide Are Being Abused For ‘Faking’ It

Members of Adelaide’s vision impaired community are being regularly harassed and accused of ‘faking’ their disability, according to the Royal Society for the Blind.

RSB executive director Robert Dempsey said on Thursday:

“We hear so many examples of vision impaired people being harassed because someone has decided they’re not ‘really blind’, and it’s just appalling. It’s bullying.

“Technology has come a long way in enabling blind or partially-blind people -- who have always been highly capable and resourceful -- so they may not look or behave the way some people expect them to, but that certainly doesn’t give members of the public the right to single them out and make judgements about them.”
