The owners of Jam and Sugar (JAS) Bakehouse at Port Adelaide have been fined $22,680 over 32 breaches of the Food Act.
Courts documents reported by The Advertiser show that a food inspector found a range of black and mouldy pies for sale at the bakery late last year.
The documents also reveal other off food was on sale, including ham sandwiches:
“The ham appeared to be discoloured and had turned to a greyish brown. The officer also noted that a pungent odour was emanating from the sandwiches.
“The officers identified banana caramel pies on a tray in the cool room that exhibited mould growth on the top filling.
“This particular mould growth was black, fluffy and appeared to grow vertically — this food should have been clearly identified as food for disposal.
“One officer also located a pot containing a substantial quantity of tuna mornay. The officer noted that the top layer of the contents were hard and slightly discoloured — this food should have been clearly identified as food for disposal.”
