A man and a woman — one of whom was Australian — have been found dead on a beach in Portugal following a reported selfie accident.
According to News Ltd, a local rescue official has told media:
“Everything seems to indicate that the fall happened when they were probably trying to take a selfie.
“It seems they dropped their mobile phone and fell down while leaning over to retrieve it.”
The woman was reportedly in her 30s while the man was in his 40s. The couple were discovered on a beach at Ericeira — about 30 kilometres from Lisbon — by a beach cleaner on Tuesday morning local time.
It is unclear which of the couple was from Australia.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Portugal.
