A former Adelaide aged care worker has been jailed for assaulting a dementia patient he was supposed to be looking after.

According to 7 News:

Michael Mullen was found guilty of aggravated assault in February, after he repeatedly punched dementia patient Elizabeth Hannaford at the Lourdes Valley Nursing Home in 2015, inflicting serious facial injuries…

The court heard Mullen had become agitated and frustrated at having to visit Hannaford's room multiple times.

He then struck the grandmother in the face…

In handing down the verdict, Magistrate Foley said he was satisfied that Mullen closed the curtain between the two beds so that Rogers could not see what was happening, then punched Hannaford in the face more than once.

Mr Mullen has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of nine months.
