Westfield Tea Tree Plaza will be redeveloped after the first stage of a major revamp was approved.
The Messenger reports that SA’s Development Assessment Commission has given the go ahead for work to begin on building two extra cinemas, as well as a refurbished lobby, cafes and restaurants.
Plans for a second stage (not yet submitted) reportedly focus on fashion and include up to 95 new shops.
Tea Tree Gully Mayor Kevin Knight told the paper the expansion was good news.
“It has a huge impact on our community — it’s a massive shopping precinct,” he said.
“It’s got to be good for the area. It’s very central to our city.”
