A Severe Weather WARNING Is Out For Adelaide

A severe weather warning for DAMAGING WINDS on Friday is in place for Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East and parts of North East Pastoral districts.

According to the BOM:

Weather Situation: A low pressure system southwest of the Limestone Coast will move eastwards and extend a cold front across southern parts of the State during Friday. The low is expected to move over Bass Strait during the day.

West to southwesterly winds increasing during the early hours of Friday morning over Eyre Peninsula and extending eastwards and northwards during the remainder of the morning.

Damaging winds, averaging 55-70 km/h with wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are forecast over coastal areas, elevated ground and the eastern slopes of the ranges from early Friday morning. Wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are also possible over the remainder of the warning area, mostly with showers and thunderstorms.

For the Adelaide area, the windiest and wettest period is expected early morning until around midday Friday.

Areas of dust, reducing visibility, are possible across northern parts of the warning area.

Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Renmark, Murray Bridge and Kingscote.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
