A ‘Miracle’ Flu Treatment Is Being Trialed Here Right Now

Jun 13, 2019

A so-called “wonder drug” that speeds up a patient’s recovery from influenza is currently being trialed in Australia.

The pill is already used in the U.S. and Japan -- where it is getting “remarkable results” -- and is now being tested in Sydney’s Westmead Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

According to Sunrise:

Other drugs on the market stop the virus from moving through the body whereas Xofluza stops the virus from growing at all.

"It's not a cure, but it's a very good treatment. One dose is all you need to have," Professor Robert Booy from the Immunisation Coalition told Sunrise.

"It'll probably take months rather than years to approve the drug for use in Australia."
