The results of a survey published on Tuesday revealed 32% of locals thought a trip was free or under $500, while 33% believed a trip was free or under $500 if you live 10km from a hospital.
The actual cost is $955 for an emergency call out, plus a $5.50 per kilometre transport charge.
In Victoria, 55% of residents incorrectly believed a trip was free or under $500.
Meanwhile a large number of respondents in QLD (35%) and Tasmania (42%) didn’t realise ambulance were actually free in their respective states.
