Swedish blood donors are now being informed via text when they save a life.

The simple act of blood donating can be life changing.

In Sweden, in an attempt to encourage donations, blood donors are now receiving a text once their blood has been used on a sick patient.

The initiative started as a test three years ago and now is being rolled out country wide due to it’s effectiveness and popularity.

Communications Manager for the Stockholm Blood Service Karolina Blom Wilberg, told The Independent she has seen a huge return rate from donors in response to the scheme.

“Above all,  we have received such positive feedback [from the initiative] that it has made the donors come back to us and donate again.”

By sending a text, the organisers not only hope that an awareness of blood stock levels is raised, but that it gains social traction and becomes something that is done in other countries.

Does this inspire you to donate blood if you received a text saying you’ve saved a life?
