Apple’s worldwide charger recall could affect you

2 min read

Apple recently recalled all of its wall plug adaptors made between 2003 and 2015 over concerns they could break and cause electric shocks.

The voluntary recall applies to two-prong AC wall plug adaptors used in Australia, New Zealand, Continental Europe, Korea, Argentina and Brazil.

There have only been 12 electric shock incidents reported in the last 12 years, but Apple says the recall is a matter of reputation.

“Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to exchange affected wall plug adaptors with a new, redesigned adaptor, free of charge,” Apple said in a statement on the Apple website.

“We encourage customers to exchange any affected parts.”

Is your charger affected?

Apple has told customers to detach the part of the adaptor that plugs into the wall, and check the slot inside.

Adaptors with four or five characters or no characters on the inside slot should not be used.

Customers can exchange the faulty adapters at Apple stores or authorised providers.

Apple has also promised to refund anyone who has already replaced their charger due to the issue.
