The SIMPLE Check Every Woman Needs To Get Right Now

Jun 1, 2018

Promoted by Heart Foundation

If you think heart disease only affects men, think again.  Heart disease is a leading killer of Australian women, claiming the lives of 22 women each day.

90% of Australian women have at least one risk factor of heart disease and over half have two or more risk factors. Yet many women are unaware they are at risk.

The Heart Foundation is out to change that.  They want women to put their hearts first and ensure their hearts are healthy.

A GP Heart Health Check is the best way to find out your risk of heart disease. Your doctor will take blood tests, check your blood pressure and ask you about your lifestyle and family.

There’s no one cause for heart disease, but there are risk factors that increase your chance of developing it.

Unlike age, gender, ethnic background and family history, there are risk factors we can all modify that increase our risk of heart disease, including:

- High blood pressure

- High cholesterol

- Smoking

- Being overweight or inactive.

- Unhealthy diet

- Diabetes

The Heart Foundation is encouraging all women, to get a Heart Health Check with their GP this June.

Don’t let a heart attack be the first sign that something is wrong. Having information about your own heart health gives you the power to make the changes you need to.
