PM Calls For Investigation After Aussie Media Were Assaulted in US Riots

2 min read

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has reportedly asked for an investigation after Channel 7 reporter Amelia Brace and cameraman Tim Myers were “struck” and “clubbed” by US police during the pair’s coverage of riots near the White House in Washington on Tuesday morning Aussie time.

WATCH HERE:

According to 7 News:

While live on air, Myers was struck in the chest by a riot shield and Brace was clubbed with a police baton.

Morrison has now requested the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC, investigate the incident and provide further advice on registering the government’s concern.

It’s understood the embassy has also reached out to Brace and Myers to check on their wellbeing.

Amelia earlier told FIVEAA Breakfast it was “terrifying” being on the streets when the sun went down.

“Today I have flashed my press card everywhere I can to make sure I’m not confused with a protestor,” she said. “But after dark that does get quite scary because police can’t really see us, they can’t see this tiny card that I’m holding.”

“If you do get spotted in an area you’re not meant to be we’ve seen some of the things that happen to people. There have been people pelted with rubber bullets, there have been people hit with stun guns or tear gas. It is terrifying for us to be honest after dark.”
