The compliment that floored Erin Phillips

Crows AFLW star Erin Phillips says John Cahill’s observation that she could have played against men is a “flattering comment” -- but we’ll never know.

Recently on FIVEaa Darren Cahill recalled the comment his famous footballer dad made:

“Erin Phillips, my dad actually said… when she was 12 or 13 years of age he actually made the comment back then that if she was allowed to continued -- because obviously back then you were not as a female… she had a real decent chance of being the first female player to play in the SANFL.”

“I guess that’s one of the things we’ll never know,” Erin told Rowey and Bicks on FIVEaa.

“The contact’s a lot less than Dad [Greg Phillips]’s era. I absolutely could not have played in Dad’s era…

“I guess we’ll never know, but it’s a flattering comment from Darren anyway.”
