“I think it’s a bit weird,” Sarah told Jade Robran on FIVEaa.
“My brother’s not too happy with me, to be honest, because it’s what his nickname was down at work, so he’s copped a bit of flak because I’ve stolen his nickname. I’ve embraced it. I guess it’s sticking now so I can’t really hide away from it.”
Sarah said it was “shocking” to find herself becoming a cult hero in Adelaide…
“I’m not one to be in the limelight and the centre of attention. I just really wanted to come out and play football and I’m quite happy to be doing that. I guess I’ve been given that label and unfortunately it’s just something you’ve got to embrace,” she said.
But it almost never happened. Sarah was overlooked on draft day:
“It was very upsetting and there was a lot of tears. For a little bit there it went through my head that maybe it wasn’t for me and that I should probably give up.
“I felt like I’d let myself down a little but.
“It was until I spoke to some people after the draft… that I realised I still had a chance with free agency.
“I took that head on and ended up at the Crows, and I’ll be forever grateful to Bec Goddard and the coaching staff.”
