The jockey who deliberately rode his horse into opponents in January says he had blue with his girlfriend before the fateful race.

Josh Cartwright was accused of blocking rivals to allow the horse his girlfriend was riding to win -- but he says that’s not the case.

“A lot of the reason why I was pretty upset on the day was because of her,” Josh told Rowey and Bicks on FIVEaa.

LISTEN HERE:

“She said to me you’ve got too many horses in work, you’re money’s in riding just keep riding, but the way she said it came across a bit aggressive…

“I was absolutely upset about that. I really do respect her and she’s helped me through the last two years…I sort of lost a lot of confidence right there and then.

“I couldn’t have given a rat’s arse whether she won or lost to be honest. I was in that sort of reckless angry state of mind.

“I was upset with her and I didn’t give a crap whether she did win or did lose… I wasn’t in the right state of mind.”

Cartwright was this week banned from riding for 18 months and training racehorses for six months.
