West Coast premiership coach John Worsfold was an observer in the Crows’ coaching box in its NAB Challenge clash with Port Adelaide.

Woosha, as he’s known, was recruited by coach Phil Walsh to review how the Adelaide coaching team operates.

“What he was really good on game day at doing was clarifying things that I was asking,” Walsh told Rowey and Bicks on FIVEaa.

“I’d ask some questions of the assistant coaches or I’d make a statement and Woosha would question me, ‘Yeah, but what do really mean by that, Phil.’ So it was really good.”

Walsh said Worsfold was “good with process”.

“He sat in on our meetings and then he actually met with all the coaches and just spoke to them about how he thinks an assistant coach can help a senior coach game day.”

Walsh also said he would call on Worsfold throughout the season.

“I’ll contact John during the season when issues come up and I need advice. He’s got great wisdom and I rate his views highly.”

“It’s hard to get John’s time – he’s a busy man, he’s got lots of things on. To get two days of this time and it only cost me a bottle of wine was fantastic.

“It was only a bottle, but it was a bottle of Hill of Grace 2005 and Woosha doesn’t have fond memories of 2005, he was hoping for 2006.”
