A live petrol pricing website could save motorists $20 million a year, but the government isn’t interested, says the RAA.

“What we started saying to Mr Rau last year was you should consider it, and 12 months on we’re saying there’s even more compelling reasons to go with it now,” the RAA’s Mark Borlace said.

The RAA says the system would cost less than $500,000 to implement, and save motorists millions…

“Our conservative estimate of what the community saves from having a very active market, where they can see prices and react to it, is about $20m a year.

But the government isn’t interested at this stage.

“Until there’s a market failure, they’re not intending to do anything,” Mr Borlace said.

“We’re suggesting that might not be the time… given that we’re starting to see some good results out of NSW.”
