“One of the bigger taxi companies here in Adelaide is refusing to honour any travel by the Onkaparinga Council because it hasn’t paid its bill,” David Penberthy said on FIVEaa breakfast.
“It’s in arrears and a notice has been sent out to all of their drivers.”
The revelation follows news the council reimbursed CEO Mark Dowd thousands of dollars for a Kooyonga golf club membership, then tried to hide the payment.
“Maybe this cab company has been trying to get in touch with the CEO only to find out that he’s actually on official council business 40kms away playing golf at Kooyonga,” Penbo said.
“We tried several times to get Mark Dowd to come onto the program to explain why he doesn’t think he needs to pay back the $6,000.”
It also emerged during the week that the council had paid $2,429 to send Mayor Lorraine Rosenberg on VIP trips to the Australian Open tennis tournament in 2011, 2013 and 2016.
“The council’s leadership is starting to look like dead set rort,” Penbo said.
