Westfield will introduce paid car parking at its Marion shopping complex.

Callers to FIVEaa have been outraged at the introduction of parking fees after the first 2 hours. Many have stated they will no longer shop at the centre.

You also need an option saying will you shop and leave before the 2 hours is up

I will no longer shop at any Westfield Centres. I'll spend my dollars elsewhere.

I will shop at Noarlunga but with a preference to online shopping on principle as regardless of chosing another centre, I'd still be supporting Westfields.
Should Noarlunga introduce parking fees/conditions then the city would be OK

I thought in this day and age they would try to entice shoppers into Westfield and NOT turn them away. You greedy Idiots

My main purpose is going to Marion is to attend the cinema, as I am a member of the Event Cinemas Seniors Club. I will now forget my Seniors Club membership, and will start attending Noarlunga Cinema instead. I WILL NOT PAY TO PARK AT MARION - EVER!

I had the unfortunate experience of trying to park at Marion earlier this year. The car park was full and I had to drive around for near 40 minutes to find a park. Had it been regulated I wouldn't have wasted that time. I imagine by people parking there and not only shopping but going other places (e.g. working in the city). 3 hours free is the norm in Sydney where I live but beyond that you have to pay.

The fact is that after all the public Huffin' & Puffin' is over, people will accept free/paid parking at Westfields Marion and Westfield's know it !

And this is the start of 'Free/Paid' parking everywhere !!

I will catch a bus there rather than pay Westfield parking fees, to attend the cinema. Westfield charges such high rents in its shopping centres I hope, whats seems this greed attempt, doesnt put further distress on the shop keepers who are hurting already with downturns at present! Please rethink Westfield Management!

It is down right disgusting I'm 19 and I think it is ridiculous I was a daily Marion visitor but never again they haven't even introduced a trial to see how it works they didn't even consider what the people who are actually going there feel what is the actual reason for this? We were fine without your rules!!!!

Such ridiculously short-term thinking; I honestly never thought this blatant exercise in abuse of power would get through.

The outstandingly large rent they charge the shop owners in Marion apparently isn't enough, they want to harm all the businesses within Marion and have a shopping centre closed down because they wanted to make money just that little bit faster?

In the end, they will have to remove the charge or just have an empty shopping centre - business owners are going to lose their customers, meaning they can't afford the staggering rent for the space and close down which lead on to less people interested in coming in a domino effect.

Well done you absolute cretinous, greedy dolts.

Excellent news! parking should be easier now, although I don't expect the sheep to understand.

Honestly I think they have gone about it the wrong way. If they want to have paid parking, why not have the boom gate where you get your ticket on entry, then when you purchase something (coffee, movie ticket, lunch, clothes, groceries etc) you get your parking ticket stamped or validated. Then on the way out show your validated ticket, and receive FREE parking. This way it encourages spending, which in turn helps the shop owners pay their astronomical rents. For those that just want to go to Marion and walk around because it is air-conditioned to get out of the heat, or those who want to go and browse could pay for their parking. To me that is a win win situation. what do others think? In the mean time, I will be going to Centro Colonnades and using the smaller local shopping centres like Hallett cove and Southgate. But the question is how long until they follow Westfields lead?

W/F encourage people to shop by providing free parking. now they want to charge for the priveledge and investigating our wallet. what can u do in 2 hours and should you be in a situation where 2 hrs is INsufficient eg picture theatre, hairdresser etc, you are required to pay including the so calledfree time.
..if you need to visit more than once per day the free period doesnt apply
..disabled persons how will the camera decide if only rego numbers are sought after
..I dont like the idea of private data being collected by commercial businesses. will there be a two-way direct link to the MRB ,then who will pay to get the info -ultimately the victim more revenueraising for gov.
..it will come that the info so gained be used for marketing purposes, and where will this end.
.. DAC -alias gov- would not approve the charging if there was nothing in it for treasury
.. this unilateral approach is only to increase monetry gain and it must be reversed
.. a system that allows you to park free providing a purchase of $xx is made or exemptions to obvious lengthy periods of stay.
.. W/f are big enough to withstand this outcry and when the uproar has died down they will get their way.
.. I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THE PROPOSAL AND MY BUSINESS WILL BE TAKEN ELSEWHERE.

When i go to marion i usually catch a bus because its always so busy and the bus is very coinvenient for me. but from the point of view of driving there and parking I may not. , Westfield are so greedy. They charge the store owners so much already in rent and most struggle, and now they want to penalise them more, along with customers who help give Westfield their bread and butter, so now a lot wont shop there as much. This is so much crap by Westfields ..
Well it might give colonnades a better go with patrons. and what about the movies. most pics are longer than 2 hrs. i hope it bites them in the butt.

To SMDU.... baa humbug... and you're wrong, if we were sheep we wouldn't mind being shorn of our hard earned by Westfield... As for the folk complaining about getting a park I'm not sure which car park you're using but the only time I have ever struggled to park is at Christmas and frankly nothing will help then. Went there on Thursday for an appointment in the tower and got a park straight away right out the front.

I wonder if this introduction has anything to do with Westfield's online shopping alternative?
