Football crowds in South Australia are on the decline.

What is the biggest issue that stops you from going to the football every week?

Is it :

The Venue - Are you unhappy going to the West lakes stadium?

The Game Style - Are you unhappy with the Brand of footy being played?

The Money - Is it too expensive to to attend live matches?

The Time Slot - Do games live against the gate make to stay home and watch on TV rather than to the game?

The Lack of Star Power - Are SA's Team's missing some absolute stars that pull punters through the gate?

Or is there something else that has turned you away from going to the football in SA. Vote and have your say below.

If it gets too expensive in years to come i might not attend. Right now, none of the above choices bother me... i love my club. Go Power!

None of the options available is why I do not go to AFL football in S.A. Football crowds are catered for much better in Melbourne and I do not like Football park and the one sided atmosphere. In addition the game is not as good as it use to be.

the style of play is starting to wear off on the supporters from both sides plus it's all about Victoria. I'd rather watch SANFL for a real local atmosphere.

There is no one reason, just all of them combined to add up to a decline.
Also both clubs are struggling this year, everyone likes a winner so that has an impact as well this year.
An inner city stadium will be better, but i wish the debate wasn't hijacked in the last election by political one upmanship, and now i'm not even convinced that adelaide revamp would be that much cheaper anyway.
I think we have stars in our team when we play well, but trying to keep the magpies afloat with the power is just ridiculous to me! They should take out power memberships!

All of the points in the poll above in no particular order, except maybe the one about game style. The AFL is killing the game we knew and loved at grass roots level. It's now a corporatised, sanitised, boring product with no regard to the long suffering supporter. Demetriou has delusions of grandeur and one of his major goals is to generate money - lots of it. And why wouldn't he? He gets to pocket a nice sum as a bonus if the profits increase. And if his ego is big enough to envision the game going international one day, who is he kidding? The game isn't even national yet. It's not even representative of all the genuine football states.

Umpiring is a problem - too many interpretations. Slow the game down and the skills will increase. The umpiring will get better beacause the slower pace will accomodate the need for one umpire only, enabling consistent decisions across the field. Bring back the characters we love and get rid of tiggy touchwood rules which confuse everyone, supporters, players and coaches alike.

Sound like deja vu? No wonder we live in the past. The footy was better and we didn't have a prick like Demetriou running things to boost his own importance.

I like many others like to see the "Power" kick forward, go straight down the middle and have some decent tall forwards to compete for a mark, and kick straight through the middle and score goals.
We would like to see some home games won!!!!

by malanno (18/06/2010)
frank_dux

well i can't vote as i go to games the only thing that would stop me is prices if they skyrocketed or a family function that i couldn't miss love aami easy catch a bus straight to aami, but home games should not be live unless sold out

by frank_dux (20/06/2010)

The fear of losing due to playing and making a lousy job of going forward into attack and when we do we expect " Ebo" to take on taller opposition with very little help, surely the coaching crew see this but nothing changes and "Choco" has an arrogant nonchalance attitude which enrages many supporters because we expect changes to some of the obvious flaws in the overall gameplan.

would rather get some cheap flights to melbourne a couple of times a year where you dont get slugged for eats and drinks, can get to a game on decent public transport and stay in the cbd at a reasonable price.Great weekend away and is quite possible to squeeze 3 games in.As well as following glenelg in the SANFL this works out fine.

AFL footy in SA is a non event, even when my victorian based team that I support plays in Adelaide I relunctantly attend. The inferiority complex that is held by many south australians (which i am one) is pathetic and makes supporting an opposing team at footy park an unpleasant experience.
I too would rather go to Melbourne and absorb the fantastic culture that is AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL.
GO THE MIGHTY CATS and to all the crows and port "barrackers" .....get behind ya team and stop making excuses.

We need to break away from the AFL! SANFL needs to expand nationally! If this were to occur we would at last, since 1991, be set free from Victorian arrogance and their overwhelming control they belive to have on the game. A game they are doing their best to DESTROY year by year. We could also acknowledge our OWN football history for a change! and host HOME grand finals! Kick a Vic! Bring footy home, EXPAND the SANFL!!! Lets take on the AFL and future proof footy! If we don't take action we will loooose footy for ever! ever noticed how boring and corporate the NFL is over in the states? Do we realy want to go down that path? Loyalty has already left the game, as has the charaters that play it! Bring back the spirit that is SANFL footy!

Get Rann and Foley out of the Adelaide Oval upgrade and get them back to run the state, there is no leadership. The Doctor of Spin, "Media Rann" .

The venue is good, the teams are good, that's not the problem. It is simply just way too expensive...

I was at the last Port vs Collingwood game at AAMI Stadium. I was surprised by some of the prices that I witnessed.

South Australian football was killed the day that the Crows, and later the Power, entered the AFL. What is wrong with football is the extreme bias towards anything Victorian in footy. I say get rid of the Crows and the Power and get the 40000 plus crowds back that used to go to the SANFL. I remember being amongst 80000 people at Football Park to watch Sturt and Port play in a grand final.

Nothing stops me from going to the footy.I prioritise my expenses and paying my Crows and SANFL club membership are a very high priority.I am employed part time and a single parent of 2,so money is important, but I spend on what I consider a priority. When I go to the footy I take my own food and drink,I catch the free bus to AAMI,I don't expect to stay dry and warm if it rains(I wear a rain jacket),after all I am watching a winter sport-and I don't whinge about the weather or exorbitant food, car parking or Football Record prices because nobody forces me to pay for them.

because i perfer local footy, local players mostly good price, walk on the oval during breaks kick the ball around after the game as well parking is easier
kids can still kick a ball around in the crowd places to sit on the grass,
A good atmosphere as 1/2 the crowd are following 1/2 the team not like crows or port everyone cheers the opposition does something good and they dont even get a clap place is silent
what happened to the days when if the opposition did something good they get some form of recognition?
easier to drive home, less parking and traffic hassles
That place in west lakes is so far out of town for 2/3rds of the followers

I used to clean the Crows Tavern (as it was called then) over the weekends and believe me, the place, and the toilets in particular) was an absolute mess after a Power game, one of many reasons I gave the job away. They would put bottles and glasses down the toilet bowls and urinals, and crap on the floor. The full detail I will leave alone.

Because the game is as boring as bat sh#t, not even a real sport & was invented to keep the Bogans away from real sports.
