Obviously a slow news week?

I heard even the Defence Minister has thrown his support behind Tony Abbott.

send the tools at 7 a email about what you think of them & Riley
www.google.com.au/

by cob115 (10/02/2011)
ElizabethFred

Sorry, Cob, but that is not a direct link to Channel 7, It is a link to a Melbourne marketing Co and Riley is in Sydney !!!

by ElizabethFred (10/02/2011)
ElizabethFred

I can't find any actual contact via electronic mail for Channel 7 - there is lots of links but they send you off to other organisations like "free tv" - the only way to contact them is by phone - forget that as the message you leave goes into the bin or snail mail, a sneaky ploy as by the time they get it, consider your complaint for a couple of weeks and send back a response, they know you will have "moved on". Bit like 5AA in a way, if you have a complaint you have to send it in writing to the GM and then WAIT for a reply - Can't remember what I complained about now - what was it again Sean ?

DOH !! i just sent a nasty email to the wrong ones !

Julia cries.
Tony says s**t happens.

Both are beat ups?
Both are true?
Both are misunderstood?
And the list can go on.

Let us leave them both alone and the media who reported both. I don't see how anyone can pick on on one over the other. He did - She did.

Surely there is something more substantial and interesting to discuss than these two things.

2 things...

Firstly we must judge by actions, not words and Abbott was a part of the Howard government that thought it was fine to send our boys to Afganistan with inferior helmets, flak jackets and boots...
This leads me to believe that they dont care about individual Australians.

Secondly if you asked your mate if he had slept with your wife and he just stared and nodded would you take that as a yes or no?

You must be completly deranged ,if you could not see the anger in Abbotts eyes & face
.I think he was thinking of his old boxing days & considering belting him one..Iv never served ,never been to Afganistan, but my family has.If some gutter jurno walked up to me ,with a recording of me taken completly out of context.& tried to insinuate , I didnt care about a dead soldier .I would smack the crap out of him.

One was a staged performance intended to gain sympathy by deceit the other was orchestrated by a journalist in an attempt to discredit someone - hardly the same.

Can you explain why they would send our brave men off with inferior equipment? It happened, the camo gear was also all wrong too making our boys targets.
Can you tell me why they bought this cheap rubbish gear if they cared or is the almighty buck more important than human life?

I guess the truth will allways come out straight away, it is only if you have to lie that you pause.

That's quite possible, just look at what happened in the space of a few months with the insulation fiasco, and that wasn't in a war zone!

Modern Labor does believe in scab labour, Goulia has already said she will bring in scab labour to help in Queensland.

Maybe thats why I dont believe in modern (New) Labor.

As i said to fred dave to be scab labour you have to walk through a picket line to got to work. So before making comments that arn't reasonable do your homework.

by watson (10/02/2011)
ElizabethFred

It appears that in modern terms, that is correct, I am still trying to come to terms with treatment metered out to me when I was younger and refused to join the union. Maybe those union officials should have gone to you Watson to be told what a "Scab" was. I just accepted their superior knowledge on terminology.
What is a person who refuses to join a union called these days? (apart from unemployed, that is)

Scab labour is also labour that has been brought in from outside the labour pool to destroy the natural supply and demand.

Bringing in this scab labour on temporary work visa's takes away the power of all working people to negotiate good rates (especially for jobs with poor conditions).

These temporary work visa's are no different than dumping cheap toilet paper in Australia and destroying our paper market or dumping cheap Chinese apples and hurting our apple farmers.

by aussieDave (15/02/2011)
aussieDave

Scab labour is also any workers willing to undercut the award wages for the set job.

Thought Media Watch on the ABC last night summed up this whole Abbott situation beautifully, the interview was not an ambush, Abbott's response was measured, all agree he said nothing derogatory or insensitive. The problem laid with the way Channel 7 promoted the story and then let it run an unnatural course. It is yet another reason right thinking Adelaidians should not watch commercial news, it is tabloid rubbish.

by Grant (15/02/2011)
Optimiss

Missed the show but Media Watch are fantastic. I would like the show to be expanded. You know Grant there was talk for a while of the show disappearing. Thank goodness that didn't happen. I agree SBS and ABC have much better news.

His name is Jonathon Holmes and he has been a journalist in all forms of the media for 30 years. i do agree he can come over as a bit of an old school teacher type at times but the shows content makes up for this.

by Grant (16/02/2011)

Yes, I agree about the content, but for some reason, find him unwatchable! Old grouch I must be!

Fair cop, I expected it, I'd just like to know why freeo1973 thinks The Honorable Anthony Abbott has porcine tendencies? ? ? For me I think he is the quintessential "Aussie Bloke"

by Rob52 (21/02/2011)

hmmmm, know what you mean ROB, but guess i tend to think of my outback Bro as the quintessential Oz bloke, and he bears no resemblance to our "Tone"

Tabloid isn't a kind of journalism, it is a size of a newspaper, The Advertiser is a tabliod & The Australian is a broadsheet, please don't use words that you don't know the meaning of it just makes you look stupid

by Rob52 (21/02/2011)
ElizabethFred

"Tabloid journalism" is not referring so much to the size of a newspaper but more to the reputation of newspapers that were that size - surely you haven't forgotten the page 3 girls or even "The Truth". Classic example is the "Advertiser" which is tabloid and crap, against the "Australian" which is broadsheet and a responsible newspaper. Remember the "Advertiser" when it was broadsheet, it was a fairly good read, but then we didn't have ME-dia Mike then with his 1250 strong spin department !!!

Get used to it Rob, it is the way of the world, and not all of us are academics that we can use the big words, but sometimes a misused word is more descriptive than a word you have to rush to the dictionary for (I had to google "dictionary" to see if WAS spelt with an "a" or an "e").
