The countdown is on! Summer in Adelaide and Carnevale is less than a month away. Carnevale 2012 – ‘a slice of Italy in Adelaide’ - a weekend of Italian culture, lifestyle and sport at the Adelaide Showground on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February.
Carnevale has something for everyone with entertainment, fashion, youth stage, kids’ activities, amusements and rides, regional cuisine, bocce, motor show, forums, exhibitions, golf, cooking masterclasses with Adam Swanson joined by dietitian Natalie von Bertouch, Carnevale Cup, Lagotto Romagnolo dogs, fireworks and more!
Get to the Duncan Gallery for the Fashion Shows with brilliant designers Cristina Tridente and Paolo Sebastian as well as watch the young ones strut their stuff with Mostly Kids Fashion Shows.
In Piazza Jubilee, we have introduced an Artisans Corner where one can see Irene Pannunzio, a traditional lace maker and Dante Roccisano, a violin maker. Outside in Piazza Italia there is bread making with Gabriella Lincoln and Glen Smith who show us how traditional sour dough is baked in a wood fire oven.
Sport at Carnevale is always an attraction. Come and see Adelaide City defend its title won last year at the inaugural Carnevale Cup for under 12s. Those clubs wishing to wrestle the title from the champs are Adelaide Blue Eagles, Campbelltown City, Metrostars, West Adelaide and Western Strikers. We have also introduced Judo and Jujitsu demonstrations – these body sports are very popular in Italy and throughout Europe. All the favourites are back with golf, bocce and the motor show – let’s not forget the fabulous Ferrari!
We all love a good competition and 2012 sees another first – Briscola, an ancient card game believed to have been introduced into Europe by the Arabs in the 12th century. Italians just love their Briscola!
Headline act is Adelaide born and finalist from ‘Australia’s Got Talent’, David De Vito, ‘a voice with the power to transcend and captivate’. Funny man from Melbourne, James Liotta entertains on Sunday only and Circus Elements create mayhem on stilts on stage and roaming about with their feast of fun and feats of juggling stupidity.
