The South Australian labor politician at the centre of a sexism row in federal parliament, says the matter is now closed.

Senator Penny Wong says she has accepted the apology of liberal senator David Bushby who 'meowed' at her during an estimates hearing yesterday.

The incident later sparked a fiery row during question time in the lower house.

Senator Wong says she also had a private conversation with Senator Bushby over the matter but won't reveal the details.
