New figures show the average cost of a wedding in Australia has ballooned to more than $36,000.

Aussie couples are spending on average an extra 6.5% more this year to pay for their dream day.

That's according to business information analysts Ibis World who've done a breakdown of wedding costs.

And it looks like the hire cars are one of the biggest expenses along with the bride's dress and the reception venue.
