Aussie Sam Stosur has conquered the world, winning the 2011 US Open with a straight sets win over red hot favourite Serena Williams.
The ninth-seeded Stosur was far too strong for three-time champion Serena Williams, winning 6-2, 6-3.
It was sweet Grand Slam success for Sam who lost last year’s French Open final. She is the first Aussie to win a women’s Grand Slam event for 31 years.
"I think I've had one of my best days," a beaming Stosur said on court after being presented with the trophy.
"I'm very fortunate to have done it on this stage in New York where I've always loved to play.
Serena was a gracious loser despite losing it during the match at the umpire.
“She played really, really well," Williams said.
"She's a great player. I tried my hardest, but she just kept hitting winners.”
