New Zealand authorities say the stricken cargo ship stranded in the Bay of Plenty remains intact.

They're now waiting for daylight to confirm what damage the vessel has suffered overnight.

The Rena has lost about 350 tonnes of oil and 88 containers overboard since grounding on the Astrolabe Reef on October 5.
