The Greens say they will give their votes to Labor candidate Susan Close in Saturday's by-election in Port Adelaide

The move may boost Labor in the largely two-way race with popular local mayor Gary Johansen, who's standing as an independent

Greens MP Mark Parnell (pictured) says Labor have acted well to conserve the Port, and deserve their preferences

"Certainly the recent announcement sof the Labor party, in relation to community consultation, in relation to extending the conservation park on Torrens Island, in relation to protecting some of the historic features of Port Adelaide, have impressed local Greens."

Residents in the Port and in the Salisbury seat of Ramsay will vote to replace Kevin Foley and Mike Rann this Saturday.
