Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray has been placed on suicide watch on his first day in a Los Angeles jail.

The 58 year old plans to appeal the manslaughter conviction that holds him responsible for the singer's death in June 2009.

Murray's facing up to 4 years jail when he's sentenced on November 29.
