A 5.6-magnitude earthquake has shaken northeast Japan.

The area is close to the tsunami-crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, but there are no reports of damage to the facility.

Officials say the moderate quake struck offshore near the coast of Fukushima last night, with a very shallow focus, and there are no fears of a tsunami.
