Three months out from departure day, and time to break in the hiking boots.
They may not be the most glamorous shoes I own, but they're already amongst the most comfortable. Let's hope they stay that way! My training partner and fellow trekker Janet and I set off for our weekend walk on Saturday afternoon. Morialta Conservation Park is beautiful at the moment with lots of water coming over the falls - so much so that we didn't tackle the third falls crossing. But two hours roaming around the second falls track was good for the training schedule and beautiful as the spring wildflowers start to bloom. Janet had already spent a couple of hours along the linear park that morning so notched up her first 4 hour plus stint in her boots with no problems. Having been to the physio on Friday about my downhill knee problem, I now have some new insight into the operation of the patella (kneecap) and ITBs (large band down the outside of the thigh). Apparently my ITBs are very tight, so I now have a string of new exercises to build into my lazy life! Still it'll all be worth it come December I'm sure.
In the meantime, fellow trekkers Caty and Lou have their Quiz Night Fundraiser this Saturday night. If you're interested in getting along to support us, details are here.
Also coming up next month is a terrific movie afternoon organised by two other trekkers, Kathryn and Deb. A lovely way to spend Sunday afternoon with some wine and nibbles from 1pm and the new Julia Roberts film “Eat Pray Love” to follow at 2pm. Further details here
There's also my everyday hero page http://www.everydayhero.com.au/jane_doyle if you'd like to help. All donations over $2 are tax deductable and go directly to the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation to assist with breast cancer research.
While the boots are the "stars" of this week's photo, the eagle eyed amongst you may spot Miss Bea on my t-shirt. She's the star of the Bras Off for Breast Cancer campaign National Pharmacies launched last week, so check out how you can help with some merchandise purchases at your local National Pharmacy and other selected outlets.
