A big fall in demand for larger vehicles has been blamed for the latest round of job cuts at Ford.
240 jobs will go at the company's two Victorian plants in July.
Toyota has also scaled back production at its Melbourne factory due to a shortage of components from earthquake affected Japan.
Unlike Holden and Toyota, Ford only makes large vehicles in Australia.
Locally, Holden says its cut back in white collar spending but is waiting to see how the situation in Japan unfolds.
The carmaker says it added over 200 jobs late last year to the production line to commence building the Cruze at Elizabeth, and doesn't forsee any cuts.
