Today is the 30th anniversary of Australia's first mobile phone call.

The call was made in Melbourne, from a car-phone weighing a whopping14 kilos on the Telstra mobile network which was then called Telecom.

The phone cost about $5000 back then which in today's terms would be the equivalent of around $17,000. you could only call people within a 5km radius and the driver was alerted to an incoming call by the horn honking or the lights flashing.
