A leading political commentator says Kevin Foley needs to do the right thing and stand aside as Police Minister.

It comes after lawyers for the man charged with bashing Mr Foley outside a city bar, accused the former treasurer of trying to force himself on two young women before he was allegedly assaulted.

Political commentator Dean Jaensch says he shouldn't continue on with the Police portfolio while the case is in court.
