The Police Commisioner admits it may be impossible for police to end South Australia's bikie war, unless judges become tougher on criminals.
Commancheros leader Vince Focarelli is in hospital this morning after being wounded by a gunman who also killed his 22-year-old stepson Giovanni in Dry Creek on Sunday night.
It was the 4th attempt on his life in the last 2 years.
It's been revealed the person who kills Focarelli can take his title as Commancheros president.
Meantime, Commisioner Mal Hyde says police would consider protecting Focarelli, if he helped them with investigations.
" We always look at things like witness protection but we would be hard pressed at this time to describe Vince Focarelli as a witness, given that he won't cooperate and tell us anything but certainly those are things that we do look at."
Premier Jay Weatherill says the government is considering a changing laws surrounding bikies.
"New methods and new legislation is necessary to tackle the outlaw motorcycle gangs. These are pieces of legislation that the police have asked for, and we will continue to support the police in all of their requests."
