Punters thought he was the one to take out the competition in 2011 but it all came crashing down for Masterchef favourite Jay Huxley in last night’s pressure test.

Jay, a self confessed savoury man, was devastated when confronted with a dessert from Ms G chef Dan Hong.

Jay started out doubting his ability to finish the dish - a Pandan chiffon cake with palm sugar and black sesame ice cream - and it looked like that was going to be a reality, when part way in he decided he should just give up. But after making a fairly decent cake mix it started to look better for Jay who found a second wind and managed to get all the elements finished and plated up.

After tasting the dishes from Dani, Ellie and Jay, the judges decided Jay’s messy plating and “blonde” looking praline was enough to boot him out of the competition. Jay was asked if there’s truth to the rumour he’s accused the judges of being addicted to desserts… “I didn’t accuse anyone but they certainly have a sweet tooth there’s no doubt about that.”

Jay broke down when he was told his time in the Masterchef kitchen was over, shedding a few tears but in a twist that was maybe a little bit Dan Hong feeling guilty for his deadly dessert, he’s done some work experience in Ms G’s kitchen since leaving the show. When asked if he’s had to make that dessert again… “Yes quite a few times actually, I can do it without the recipe now.”

Jay’s now finishing off a book he started writing before he went into the Masterchef comp and is helping at a cooking school in Sydney called Cooking for Blokes.
