Things We Didn’t See Coming is the first novel from Melbourne based writer, Steven Amsterdam. It has been compared to dystopian classics Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell and The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Things We Didn’t See Coming serves as a warning to readers about political extremism and environmental catastrophes. The book is written as a series of short stories which are connected, but often not obviously so.
Things We Didn’t See Coming is the winner of the 2009 Age Book of the Year.
