This is a non-fiction classic, part of Text Publishing’s Australian classic launched in April 2012. This edition includes an introduction from Christos Tsiolkas, the renowned author of The Slap. In this book Robin Boyd investigates the Australian aesthetic in regard to architecture and the suburbs. Whilst not entirely a tragedy for the Australian community, Boyd proposes that education in design can be a means to resolve the ugliness he observed.
This idea is particularly pertinent in Adelaide right now, as we continue to debate what to do in our CBD – and as we continue to witness the suburban sprawl to Aldinga and Gawler. A perfect pick for a lively book club discussion!
